Happy Tails

Nikki (formerly Penny)

Happy to report Penny (formerly Nikki) is doing very well with our family. She's loving our morning runs and is a staunch defender of bunnies from our backyard. She's done great meeting other dogs and is a happy playmate of our 18 month old Sam. Thank you so much for bringing her into our lives!

Max

Max is doing great settling into his forever home! He's very loving and is eager to be with us at all times. Once he settles down from playing, he is happiest cuddling up with us and getting his belly rubbed. We have some obedience training in our future to help with his tendency to nip a little bit when playing, but we know he'll do just great! Thank you for bringing Max into our lives - we are so grateful.

Pippin (formerly Freddie)

Pippin and Gimli are best buddies. He is settling in very well. He still has some anxiety from time to time but it’s getting less frequent as time goes on. We took him running with us for the first time this morning. He seemed to like it. He has made a lot of doggie friends in the neighborhood and we take him and Gimli to play with them in a neighbors fenced back yard on the weekends. He really enjoys running around with the other dogs. He also loves our long walks in the mornings and evenings. I think he is happy with us. He is such a sweetheart and he deserves to have a stable, active life.

Murray (formerly Ace)

Hoping he is as steady and just plain good as his namesake, Eddie Murray, my all time favorite Oriole! Murray laid in the backseat for most of the ride until he had to go; he gave me a kiss to tell me and we were close so he held it! He sure was smelly Murray, and got a bath right away. Two actually. He doesn't love that but seems to understand the need. He could use another but I fear he'll think that happens every time he goes out back so I'll wait for now. He's settled into his bed, met a few neighbors who just can't help themselves, and did great! He would prefer the couch and keeps getting told that's not going to work. The leash works! Now all I say is "no! Here's Murray's bed!" All the same, taken treats with care, doesn't care for green beans or carrots (I'll work on that) and his ears perk up when he hears kids; I don't have them but it's great that he is so kind. I so appreciate all your help. Your reinforced rescuing is the best option.

Reyka (formerly Scout or Peyton)

OurDogReyka Our 3 year old rescued dog Reyka has adjusted very nicely to our household since October 2014. She is well mannered, affectionate and eager to please. It took about a month for her to be fully comfortable in the house – now she romps around showing how happy she is, playing eagerly with her toys. She also loves to go on long walks of 4 or 5 miles. She’s still a little shy around other dogs and people, but has totally bonded with us. We’re so happy she’s part of our family.

Thanks,
Lee

Lily SmilingI couldn’t resist sending you this latest photo of Lily (formerly Poppy).  Do you love that smile?  She is just wonderful, so loving and funny, and everyone who meets her falls in love.  We recently went on vacation for two weeks and put her in the kennel.  They spoiled her rotten–kept her up front in the office with them during the day and didn’t want to give her back.  Thank you again for letting us adopt her.

Beckham (formerly Midnight)

beckham

Beckham is doing great!  We named him Wilson after Wilson Ramos (we are big Nationals fans:)  He is relaxing and becoming more playful every day.  He is very territorial about our yard and house.  We haven’t taken him on a walk yet but my husband is planning to take him early in the morning this weekend because he seems to be ready- and we want him to get some good exercise.  He has met a couple extended family members and it has gone very well.  He does fine in his kennel for a couple of hours during the day but is not thrilled to be in there at night.  We have had it in another room but tonight we are going to try to put it in our bedroom to see if that relaxes him.  He just really wants to be near his people most of the time. Lori.

Hailey

hailey
I’ve had Hayleigh for a year – she is 2 1/2 and weighs 54 lbs. What a great dog and wonderful companion; she has settled in to her environment and has adopted a daily routine. She loves everybody and romps around with my daughter’s dog, Lulu, when she visits. Very playful when she’s not a couch potato – she does like her naps. She is still very submissive and will not play tug or chase a ball. For about 6 months now, she has the whole house available to her when I’m out – I just need to make sure there are no shoes available to her (her biggest weakness). She’s gotten to know many dogs in the neighborhood and greets them excitedly during walks. She is the ideal family dog and I am very fortunate to have adopted her.

Thank you to Tara’s House; keep up the great work.

Gus

We lucked out with Scout, whom we’ve renamed Gus.  We really think he’s the worlds best dog.  No accidents, he’s getting along wonderfully with our cat (although a little jealous of the cat at times) he’s the best cuddler in the world.  We’ve been crating him while we are at work, I’ve been stopping by at lunch to check on him.  I don’t even think crating is necessary, we’ve mostly been doing it to make sure him and the cat are ok when we aren’t home.  He enjoys his walks in the morning.  I’ve been taking him on long walks after work.  I think he’d even be a good running partner.  We are planning on taking him to obedience training.  I’m scheduling his vet appt this week. We can’t thank you enough for giving us such a wonderful addition to our family. Sheila.

Lucas

Kiki

We couldn’t wait for her so as soon as I received the ok and signed your adoption contract, we all headed into the car and on the road Tuesday at 12:30p. 5 hours later we pulled up at Don’s house where he and his wife and kids were waiting for us. We picked her up, she got in my lap in the front and never left until we returned home. She “knew” where she was the minute we got home. Now her home forever. You have no idea how much that little dog means to us. She has vet apt next week and Monday we will start parameter training. No more cages, crates or kennels- she will be forever free and loved. Our family is complete again and she is a big part of it. God bless and love to all the people that made it happen, especially to you. Brenda.

Ziva
Ziva after This photo is our beautiful Ziva, after a trip to the doggy salon. She has been groomed and bathed and pampered, with all the mats and tangles removed. With her pretty pink collar, and her license and ID Tag, she feels very special. She is doing wonderfully. We believe she must have previously been housebroken, and she is right at home in her crate. Our vet gave her a clean bill of health and she has had shots for every disease known to veterinary science. We could not be happier with her or love her more. Thank you for making it possible for her to join our family. Kathy and Bruce Bucklin

Stella
photo (1)Kylie (FKA Stella) is doing great. Hard to believe it is already 2 months since we brought her home! Kylie is the “Star” of the neighborhood as everyone wants to meet her or know what breed mix she is. So far, people say Husky/Sheltie, Corgi + something, Husky + something, Aussie + something, etc. etc. We think Husky/Sheltie but who knows! She pretty much loves everyone (canine and human), eating all sorts of vegetables in addition to her meals (never knew a dog could like so many!), playing with her toys, has completed Basic Manners 1 and started Basic 2 today! She’s a class favorite. The 1st wk she was super scared of things in the class and we’re still working on some fear issues, but overall she’s doing really well. We are so lucky to have her due to the hard work of Tara’s House and we’d be happy to join in any get togethers in the future for Tara’s House alumni or events! Asha and Sanjay

IMAG0713 Just wanted to let you know that Bo is doing fine. He’s fit in well and enjoys country living. Thanks for all the encouragement. I needed it but he is worth the effort. Best, Marianne.

Sammy
IMG_3661I thought I would write to let you know what a wonderful dog Sammy-aka Pepper has been. He is one of the family now. I had been a bit concerned as our other dog Emily whom we rescued as year before Sammy had been very difficult in many ways. Sammy was the trick. Emily looks up to him and follows his good example. They are a great team–always playing and defending the house. Thanks for a job well done. My life would not be as rich without my Sammy. He is the white jack on the left. Anne.

Jaden
koda&eli-1Remember Jayden? She lays right by my feet as I type this. She’s the perfect dog for our family, and we always get comments about her beautiful markings. Just for fun, here’s a photo of her and her new best friend. She chose him when they were at a kennel together. We dropped off one dog and came home with two! She loves having a companion and is really happy. Hope your work as a dog-rescuer is going well. Chris.

Sophia
photo14 Just touching base! Sophia has adapted well and has really relaxed around us. She trusts us 100% and is giving us plenty of love in return. She really is a most loving and sweet dog! She loves the outdoors and enjoys playing our big yard. She has the wild dog type instincts outdoors but still enjoys relaxing on a soft couch indoors too. She sleeps with us everynight. Sophia is very Happy and we are too!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!! The Haywood Family

Grace
644081_10100102399362789_1732041043_nI just wanted to send you and email to thank you for all that you did in helping us find our forever ‘fur-child’. We so appreciate what you and everyone involved in Tara’s House do! Celeste who we have now changed her name to Grace or Gracie is the perfect addition to our family. She spent the Thanksgiving with my roommate in New Jersey and will spend Christmas in New Hampshire with myself and family. She is such a funny little girl and has quite the personality. We will begin obedience school soon to work on the energy level and how to control that. She is such a happy little girl and she steals everyone’s hearts. I’ve included a few pictures of our Gracie and her smiling face. Thank you again!

Addison
I just wanted to follow up with you and let you know that I am planning on keeping Addison. He is adjusting well to his new environment, and quickly settled into his place on my couch. I am continuing him on his diet, with any luck he will keep on losing some weight. We had our first training class last night at PetSmart. I think it will quite a bit of time and energy, but I am hopeful about his training.

Biscuit
DSCF9192 Our visit with the vet went great and Skye (now named Biscuit) is settling in and has won all our hearts. Boy, do we love her! We’re excited about a fence that will be built in the next week or so, so she can run around more. I don’t mind walking her at all, but I think she’d love more freedom. Tracey Heller

Jaggar
I wanted to thank you once again and let you know how Jaggar is doing so far. He seems to like his new home and enjoys the courtyard and neighbor dogs to play with. Thank you again for allowing me to make him a member of my own family! Krista.

Kiwi
IMG-20130703-00958Kiwi is doing well. We’re going to transition his name to Ringo, due to the rings on his tail. Rough start on Sunday with accidents and not knowing how to go up and down steps. He’s a pro at steps now, very smart pup and a very fast learner. We’re starting from scratch on house training and no mistakes since Sunday. He’s starting to relax and trust us and everyday we see more and more of his wonderful personality and his confidence building. He seems happy! Thought you’d like to see a picture. Enjoy your 4th! Thanks again for checking in. Susan.

Summer and Eli
SAM_0139She is settling in great, she didn’t bond immediately with us, it took her a few days to be all loving. But with Eli she bonded on the ride home. She is doing awesome now. She will come to us for love and even tried to climb in bed with us. Her and Eli do everything together and play about 6 hours out of the day, our back yard is about 3/4 acre so they have lots of room. We have already figured out that she doesn’t like the rain but loves any other type of water, even slimy ponds or puddles, not my favorite. We couldn’t be happier with her, Eli is happy as well and is so trainable I think he spoiled me to think all dogs caught on as fast as he does, I attached some pictures, they are toooooo cute! We just couldn’t be happier with both of them, Thank you for saving their lives. Our world is happier with them in it. We can’t wait to go backpacking with them. They both love the outdoors so. Again THANK YOU to Tara’s House for saving their lives! Stacie and Bill

Holiday
I’m so excited and pleased to send you this update on Holiday. He’s doing very well and making many people happy. Earlier this spring I had him groomed with a “summer cut,” and he’s looking very handsome with his striking mustache and white paws. At home with me he’s a cheerful companion and on our walks he’s learning not to bark at people and dogs approaching us. But best of all is how loving he’s been with the grandchildren. My daughter and I had an agreement that her family would “share him” if I needed to be away overnight. We tried this out for a few days last week when I went to NY for the birth of a new grandson, and Holiday went to Erica’s where her two girls (ages 6 and 3) were happy, entertained and responsible. The older one became very good at walking him (with an adult along) and the younger one petted and scratched him whenever he snuggled next to her. The younger insists on calling him “MY Holiday” and was very sad when I picked him up. I’m short on pictures, but will try to capture him with the children when I can. Best, Ruth.

Buddy
photo It’s been a little over a year since we adopted Buddy. I meant to send this on Mother’s Day to thank you for being such a great foster mom to Buddy and other dogs. Without you, we would not have our Buddy whom we love so much. He is really happy and still as cuddly as ever. This is a jacket my daughter made for him. His chest is too broad to fit into a short enough one from Petco! He’s totally filled out now to 44lbs. He likes licking the cat food cans every morning. He also tries to sleep as late as he can by continuing to switch beds until the last person is awake..:). Not only do we adore him, but others are quick Buddy fans after he finishes barking the first few minutes. Steve and Linda

Wolfie
downloadI just wanted you to know that Wolfie (“Abel”) is doing great! He has fit wonderfully into our family and seems really, really happy. He turned out to be EXACTLY what I was looking for. He is sweet, mellow, snuggly, and a great “hanger-outer.” He has been to the vet who gave him a clean bill of health, and has been groomed. Thank you so, so much for helping bring canine joy back to our grieving family!
